But this time Sri Lanka is famous in a completely different field, it is none other than a super class fast car made by the hands of Sri Lankan geniuses. This amazing creation is going to be unveiled in the beginning of March in Geneva, in addition to the wonderful creations like Sigiriya made by Sri Lankans, which are considered to be famous works in the world today.

This supercar called Vega is a fast car in the literal sense of the word. Needless to say, Sri Lanka is not a familiar name in the world of supercars because a fast car made in Sri Lanka never came to the fore. But proving what the forecasters said that the dawning new century will be full of ups and downs is true, a car made in Sri Lanka is all set to be presented at the International Motor Show in Geneva, Switzerland.

For the first time in the history of more than 115 years, all of us Sri Lankans who love cars will be able to see a car made in Sri Lanka at the Geneva International Motor Show, one of the world’s leading motor shows. It is said that this Vega, which is a fully electric car, has 900 horse power and it takes only 3.1 seconds to reach a speed of 0 Km to 100 Km. Thus, the Vega has more horse power than famous cars such as Ferrari 488 Pista (710hp), Porsche 911 GT 2 RS (700hp) and Mclaren 720 S.

When comparing the time it takes to get the speed from 0 Km to 100 Km, the time is only a few milliseconds different from the above powerful cars and the time taken by the Vega is very close to that of the Lamborghini Aventador S. From that point of view, Vega has the ability to compete side by side with these powerful European cars that have more than half a century of experience in the automotive industry, and all these factors can never be taken for granted.

It is not an easy task to produce a car that can challenge the above companies who are experts in the automobile industry in terms of technology, knowledge, capital and experience and it can be safely said that this Vega is a turning point in the field of Sri Lankan automobile manufacturing.

The “DC Avanti” produced in neighboring India, which produces a large number of cars per year in South Asia, cannot even come close to the capabilities (performance) of the Vega. And in the future, the demand for electric cars will increase and many car manufacturing companies are turning to the production of electric cars, the demand for a car like “Vega” must definitely increase.

Being able to travel over 250 km on a single charge (charged in 15 minutes) is also a unique feature of the Vega, and considering it as a sports car, it will probably benefit from having a mid-level driving range compared to other cars on the market.

The weight of the battery used here is about 480 kg and it is considered that it consists of 12 modules and 50 cells and the weight of the whole vehicle is about 2090 kg. It is said that the maximum speed that the Vega can reach is 250 Kmph depending on the horse power (not yet determined) and it is said that a 6-piston brake system and a self-driving system will be added to this car in the future. The body of this car is made of carbon fiber to minimize the weight of the car and finally the price of this Vega car is estimated to be around 250,000 dollars.
