2021 Toyota Mirai – Toyota is taking a new step in the production of Eco-friendly cars

The Toyota brand has been popular in the world for years as a high-quality car brand with reliability, simplicity, and reasonable price. This is one of secret to becoming the number one Japanese brand and the highest selling car manufacturer in the world.

There is nothing wrong in saying that Toyota has revolutionized the automotive industry again with the introduction of the new Toyota Mirai like they did nearly two decades ago by introducing the Toyota Prius, the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle to hit the market as a hybrid car. This is due to the recent introduction of their second generation FCV (Fuel Cell Vehicle), the Mirai, as one of the most successful and commercially viable fuel cell vehicle which will hit the mass market soon.

Many automakers are focusing on alternative energy sources as they hope to drive only renewable energy vehicles in the future and produce only zero-emission cars by 2040. In such a case, Toyota’s leap forward to manufacturing a successful FCV would be to replace the cars with many failed hydrogen cells that initially arrived a couple years back. So it’s a no-brainer not to inquire about this latest Toyota’s second-generation zero-emission hydrogen-powered electric sedan, as there are many things you need to know about it.

The new Mirai has been built on the GA-L (Toyota New Global Architecture) in Toyota and has a high-space cabin with improved cell system packages, also additional (third) hydrogen fuel tank that has given it a longer driving range than the first-generation Mirai, which has contributed to a 30% increase in the driving range to 650 km. Power has increased by 20 % more than the first-generation Mirai, while the new Mirai has received a central gravity center due to the dividing of the vehicle’s net weight by 50/50. The rear cabin has been largely constructed as the fuel cells in the back of the first generation have been upgraded and all the unwanted noises have been reduced and a silent, efficient, comfortable drive is given.

Even though there is no Internal combustion engine(ICE), must mention that the active sound creator here to release the sound like an internal combustion engine, so the driver can get an exciting driving experience instead of a boring electric vehicle. In addition to Mirai’s environmental activism, the aim is to build a more emotional attraction through the quality of driving. Furthermore, the completely redesigned fuel cell system with a significant reduction in the size and weight of all key components during fuel cell packaging does not emit any emissions into the environment other than pure water.

This processor produces 151hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels by a single-speed direct-drive transmission. Being able to speed Mirai from zero to 60 miles per hour in 8.9 seconds can be satisfying as a sedan model. While recharging a typical EV can take you a long time in the process, the new Mirai can be refueled at a hydrogen refueling station in as little as five minutes. The many new features are also included in exterior elements such as automatic LED headlights, daytime running lights, and heated side mirrors. The inner cabinet contains useful driving support components including heated front seats, keyless entrances and ignition, heated steering wheel and adaptive controls, blind-spot monitoring.

Need to put a note here about the real electricity making process in Mirai. According to the Mirai vehicle’s oxygen obtained from the environment outside, it is sent to a fuel cell along with hydrogen fuel. There’s a chemical reaction that removes hydrogen in its electrons. The electrons empower the electric motor, and the hydrogen bonds with oxygen to form water. Accordingly, only clean water is liberated every time Mirai travels and high-performance air filters release clean air to the environment too.

In all respects, Toyota Mirai has provided a clear answer to the practical issues of Eco – friendly car production, as well as the practical problems faced by electric cars today and those with zero emissions, such as recharging time, running range, and cell durability.

Toyota plans to launch a larger range of hybrid cars in the near future, including Hybrid Electric (HEV), Plug-in Hybrid Electric (PHEV), Battery Electric (BEV), and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEV), many cars will be manufactured and marketed in the future soon. It is our view that the Mirai can be introduced as a fundamental foundation for the future steps of using FCEV for large and heavy passenger cars, heavy vehicles, and public transport.

However, Toyota has only introduced the Mirai in two states in United Status so far, namely Hawaii and California. This is due to the large number of hydrogen filling stations being set up there and it is expected that the number of hydrogen filling stations and electric filling stations will increase year by year in the future. Indirectly, Mirai said it would have a significant impact on the expansion of hydrogen filling stations around the world, as well as attracting customers to use hydrogen cars.

It should be noted that it is not at all satisfactory that Sri Lanka, including South Asia, does not appear to be ready for alternative energy when the United States and European countries turn to it. It should be mention that many South Asian countries, including India, are not yet fully ready for electric cars and have already been warned by many Executives of Indian car companies.

In the end, the question we need to ask ourselves is, is Sri Lanka, including South Asia, adapting to the future of the automotive industry? Will the next steps are taken for that be successful? What are the things we as a country need to consider? What are the ways in which we personally should contribute to this task? What are the current issues for Eco-friendly car users? We hope to discuss the answers to all these questions in a future article.
